Let’s get something straight: people LOVE their pizza. With over 3 billion pizzas sold in the United States each year, pizza lands itself amongst the most popular dishes year after year after year.  Some people even consider pizza an entire food group, and come to think of it, I have actually never met a person that didn’t like pizza! And for good reason: it is really delicious! It is savoury, comforting and satisfying. It hits all of the right spots, and while I personally don’t consider pizza an entire food group, I must admit that I love it too! A lot.

Pizza is the perfect party food and always a crowd pleaser, so when I started thinking about what I’d be serving at my Super Bowl party this year, I knew I had to include it on the menu. But I couldn’t stop there; no pizza is complete without a creamy garlic dip. Any of my memories of pizza pre-going-vegan always included a creamy garlic dip, and so I started experimenting to recreate the dip I once loved. The recipe below not only replicates the dip I used to get from pizza chains, I think it improves it! It is carnivore approved, devoured every time it’s made and requested each and every get together we have. I do warn you though, there is enough garlic to ward off vampires! So if you and your guests aren’t heavily into garlic like we are, start off with less in your recipe and work your way up.

Vegan Mashed Potato Bites and Mushroom Gravy

How many people do you know that love mashed potatoes and gravy? Come to think of it, I can’t think of a single person in my life that doesn’t. I also can’t think of a single situation where mashed potatoes and gravy wouldn’t be a great addition. Every family dinner, gathering, lunch, or party is only made better by the addition of mashed potatoes and gravy. Catch my drift? I love me some mashed potatoes! Actually, I just love ALL potatoes.

A funny story for you – my friend and I were in Asia and bargaining for some souvenirs to bring home. We could tell that the sales ladies understood when we said yes or no to each other and we didn’t want to lead them on to how we felt about the products. The key to good bargaining is making the sales people believe you could easily walk away from whatever it is you’re bargaining for if the price is too high. So instead of speaking in English, my friend and I made up code words for the products we liked and the products we disliked. The ones we liked? “Pomme de terre”. The ones we disliked? “Poubelle”. Just to clarify for those that don’t speak French, pomme de terre means potato and poubelle means garbage. THAT’S how much I love potatoes. I used them as my code word.

Being the token vegan at most parties, I’ve become accustomed to saying “no thank you”. Superbowl parties, holiday parties, birthday parties – they’re all usually catered with meat platter after meat platter. Even the veggies are generally topped with cheesy dips or buttery spreads. Frequently, I’m forced to bring my own food, or I risk not being able to eat at all.

My goal, when bringing a dish to an event, is to create something so delicious that both vegans and non-vegans rant and rave about it afterward. Vegan food does not require a sacrifice in flavor and this recipe proves that through and through. This dip will reveal even the most obstinate meat eater’s surprise to learn there are no animal products used.

Let me introduce to you, the BEST Vegan Spinach and Artichoke Dip.
