Mama Tierra’s has only been open for one week. I came across this cute, little restaurant by fluke. I was walking to the subway and happened upon a health food store located right next to Mama’s. I decided to stop in and that is when Mama’s caught my eye. Since it’s brand new, there are no English menus just yet, although the owner was very happy to walk me through all of their dishes one by one. He also mentioned that while there is currently no air conditioning, it will be up and running shortly.
I enjoyed my experience at Mama Tierra’s. The owner was the only staff member there when I visited and he was very chatty and warm. We talked about his past and what brings me to Athens. He was very accommodating when I explained my allergy to strawberries and happily substituted mango into my smoothie instead, free of charge. I ordered the vegan, gluten free herbed quinoa with mushroom ragu and it was very tasty! I would definitely order it again. Prices are inexpensive, my meal and smoothie only come to around 9 euros. Portions are not huge, but should be enough if you are not extremely hungry.
I will definitely go back to Mama Tierra’s in the next few weeks to see how the restaurant has come together. Look forward to my next experience there to be posted in the upcoming weeks.
